Poxy! Little spritely thing that she is!

OK... We weren't planning on getting a new rat at this point... We were going to buy some dog food in a petshop when we saw her. All alone, in a tiny carrier tank, no igloo, no sleeping box, kept on shavings (grrrrrrr!!!) so here is my pressure going up, forget about the dog food, I am out of there before I bust a vein. We go have a coffee and sandwich and I have tears in my eyes thinking of that poor little rat kept in a not-too-clean wee tank, with no toys, on nasty bedding. Argh! We finish our snack and my sweet sweet other half tosses me the car keys and says "Go wait in the car I will go have another look." I had reservations about getting her cause I thought hmm we get her, they will get more. So... I am sitting in the car, shaking and upset, talking to a ratty friend on the phone when Woody turns up clutching the front of his fleece. I am thinking there, he's done it... Woody to the rescue!

Turns out, the woman at the petshop said they didn't normally kept rats but her boss had bought a pregnant girlie. So there. And they had been in cages til the day before when all her siblings had gone. Hmm ... ok fair enough. Then two louts walk in and say they want to buy a rat.. So there, Woody made a decision. "I will be taking her"

Poxy is one of the sweetest rats we have ever had. She was very small for her age, very skinny and underfed. But she has picked up her weight, her little body has fleshed out and she is a sweet, cuddly, friendly, licky rat. Yes, she did grow on us like a particularly quick moving disease! Please meet Poxy, the black rex dumbo wonder!

Poxy was always quite well considering she was from a petshop and had a bit of a rough start. She has left us after she developed a pituitary tumour and the treatment no longer worked so we had her euthanased. She slipped away in my arms, we stroked her until her very last breath. What a sad day. We will miss her always, she was such a sweet loving rat. She has left a huge gap in the cage, her cagemates are missing her a lot. Things aren't the same without you little bear...
