Maya is our first Rex rat, a mink Rex I was told, but she has a brown butt, which means a lot of name calling... She always looks like she's having a bad hair day. I told her the day she wanted to give herself a home perm, you will regret it! Did she listen? Nooo... She loves us so much that she puts snacks in our bed at night, we have found shrimp, dog food, chicken bones only to name a few of her offerings. She and Domdom are an item now... And they live happy together :)

Now that Domdom is gone, Maya has lost weight, she missed her so much :( Now she is older, she has problems with her teeth and gets abscesses. She is too old to have more surgery tho so we just spoil her to bits :) She is a snuggly teddy bear now :)

Well, Maya did not get better after Domdom died :(

Her abcesses never went away and then she started breathing badly and gasping one day. We tried a bronchodilator, we tried a heart drug. Her time had come, no question about it :( We had to take her to her vet's who was very nice and turned up to see her safely and gently on her way to the bridge. It was so hard to see her everyday, looking bad, then better. The last day, before I made the decision it was time we helped her across, she looked like she was going to die. Then she saw my bowl of porridge and had her head in it. It was like "Oh Mum I am DYING!!! Aaaargh! - Oh! Porridge!" It is so hard when they make you waver on your decision! That's called the will to live... But in the end she had to go die and break our hearts :(

Still... What amazing little creatures they are. And Maya will live in our hearts forever...

Maya my bear, we miss you!!! :*( xxx
